Recent transplants to the Midwest from Cape Code, this youthful couple and baby daughter contacted the design team to advise on a complete remodel of their heavily used office and private second story sleeping areas in their suburban two story residence. They had begun remodeling but mistakes were becoming costly and they sought professional help. The client requested removal and replacement of the second floor dated carpet and vinyl flooring, a refresh of all hard-installed lighting and plumbing fixtures, installation of new custom closet systems, and completely re-colorize, accessorize and warm-up all spaces while reusing their existing furniture wherever possible. To accomplish these requests, the designers specified new stunning ¾” solid tongue and groove Asian Rosewood for their hallway, porcelain tile for the bathrooms and peanut butter colored, Karastan brand, multi-sized twisted, thick pile frieze carpeting in all bedrooms. A new plumbing fixture package was expressed in an antique pewter finish to create English inspired warmth. These pewter plumbing fixtures in the master bath were toned down by new American Olean porcelain tile with brown under-tones, a nut shell wall color, a beautiful French tapestry and sepia botanical art prints. Some old lighting and ceiling fans were strategically reused and combined with new lighting including new closet lighting by Seagull, new wall sconces from Hinkley lighting and a fun kid’s room, ceiling fixture from Fabby. New Lutron dimmers helped softened the lighting package in these re-vamped spaces. The designers also specified new custom closet systems, custom window treatments, custom bedding, new artwork, new portable lighting and accessories that melded the client’s love of everything New England with a fresh and comfortable atmosphere.
