This young NFL employee called on the design team to perform an overhaul of his 1920’s era condominium in a lively area of the city so that he and his finance' would be more comfortable. After a poorly executed mid-1980’s remodel, combining their belongings and attempts to integrate their inherited family furnishings, a fresh start for their spaces was imperative for a successful design plan. The logistics of the project required moving both the clients and all their belongings into temporary housing and storage to minimize the intrusion of the construction. Hard-installed construction issues were first addressed by removing obtrusive walls and enlarging the out-dated kitchen, abused public space carpeting was replaced with durable, Italian porcelain tile in a larger format and new broadloom carpeting was replaced in the private areas with a loop graphic pattern in a deep chocolate color way. Further construction enhancements included new maple cabinetry with bronze glazing throughout the kitchen and bathrooms, new Baltic Brown granite countertops, new high performance appliances, new chrome plumbing fixtures by Elkay, American Standard and HansGrohe, and custom designed Kitchen backsplash and shower surround tile patterns. Electrical and lighting systems were upgraded with hand-selected lighting fixtures that echoed the building’s arts and crafts design motifs, new recessed lighting, closet lighting fixtures and a brand new dimmer package rounded out the lighting plan. New custom, modular closet systems and mirrored closet doors outfitted each closet to maximize and triple the available storage and open up the spaces. Layered onto these hard-installed backdrops and a contemporary neutral color palette, all public and private spaces were appointed with new custom upholstery and case good furnishings, custom floor to ceiling drapery treatments, new bedding, area rugs, artwork and hand-selected accessories. The reveal of the refurbished condo included the strategic return and styling of all the client’s personal belongings. The highlight of the project is a completed environment reflective of the client’s youthful aura and respectful of the historic arts & crafts architecture of the building.
