This night-shift hospitalist desired a renovation of an existing loft space above his garage for family and friends who visit and to create a space to keep his active dog entertained while he is working. He also requested a more organized and modern garage to facilitate his active outdoor lifestyle, as well as house his collection of luxury automobiles. The design team set to task creating contemporary spaces with a European streamlined feel, providing animal-friendly durable finishes. In the loft suite, cool gray porcelain tile was specified throughout all the main spaces to unify the openness of the loft as well as to provide an easily maintained flooring surface. An existing bar projecting off the small kitchen was removed to allow a more accessible and open space for the small loft sitting area. The installation of a new partition wall created a separate and private guest bedroom from the living spaces and created a natural break from which to transitioning flooring. Custom draperies were designed to screen off an exposed upper-loft storage area for a cleaner look. In the garage, an epoxy floor was applied and heavy-duty cabinetry and countertops installed, along with the integration of professional-grade slat walls and accessories to maximize the storage space and organize all gardening supplies, tools, equipment and overflow storage items. The use of simple and minimal design elements and the utilization of sleek metal finishes, cool-toned fabrics, pops of color via artwork and key finishes combined with contemporary Italian furniture created superbly functional spaces for the client’s family and friends to relax during their visits in the loft, and a very clean garage space for the client to enjoy his fabulous automobiles!
