These clients purchased a beautifully wooded lot in a private lake community to build a weekend vacation retreat. The designers provided assistance in the review and selection of architectural floor plans and modifications to the chosen plans, as well as the specification of all exterior materials and interior mechanical systems, electrical and lighting fixtures, finishes and furnishings for the home. The clients prescribed that the design team use environmentally sound “off the shelf” products (readily green building materials) that could be purchased at any builder supply or home improvement center to achieve both the look of a lived-in lodge and ultimately provide the most cost effective solution. Materials utilized include bamboo floors with a slate tile inlay, low VOC (volatile organic compounds) paint coatings, natural cotton furniture textiles and draperies, solid oak butcher block countertops, stainless steel appliances, porcelain bath tile , a cultured stone fireplace plus portico and Hardi-Plank™ siding (both made from recycled building products). The end result is a space that creates a relaxed and comfortable vacation atmosphere combining a new backdrop for a stunning collection of antique furniture hand made in Indiana by Rom Webber.
